what i'm choosing
because it seems like the list of things to boycott is endless these days.
but i'm not new to this: i watched one too many factory farm films at 17 and decided to go vegan. a few years and one celiacs diagnosis later, and i have found myself comfortably floating in the pescatarian label. so, i choose quality and quantity (most things i eat are inherently low cal which means 5 yummy meals a day). i choose root veggies and the fanciest cheese i can afford.
i fell in love with walking in college. i choose it whenever i can. i adopted a puppydog so i'm... forced to choose it twice a day. ai choose it as a time away from my phone and work laptop and sometimes a hideaway from the dirty dishes.
life in new england means noticing that its too hot for too long. so, i choose compost for my food scraps (and food-soiled paper towels!). i choose refillable & eco-friendly hand soap, dishwasher pods, and laundry detergent. hoping to add dish soap and some of the basics cleaners to that list. (i've only been lucky enough to make refillable choices recently, finally found a refillable store!). as an unsuccessful thrifter, i choose to spend more on clothes up front to keep them longer.
and, with the recent sus actions of streaming platforms, i choose inconvenience. i choose the albums i've cared enough to buy (or found for free). i choose cds or the radio when driving. i choose two last streaming services (netflix and cruncyroll). but best of all, i choose my local library for renting dvds and alternative free platforms (& pbs!).
i choose to go in person (haven't touched amazon in 3 years!) i choose chatgpt on occasion but here i only ever choose the agonizing and rewarding process of writing myself.
i choose as best i can with the privilege i have. and all i can hope for everyone else is to care enough to find their own version of the same.
