i like taxes
i wanted to name this post "i love taxes." but i quickly realized that love is unconditional, which is inherently at odds with the purpose of this post.
which is to say that i want to pay taxes that go toward:
- food, shelter, and medical expenses for any persons that can't afford it on their own
- our parks, public transit, and community spaces
- foreign aid in the form of food, shelter, and medical assistance
- employment programs that also benefit the community (aka if the national guard was constantly repairing roads and building homes)
- institutions i believe should be state-funded: K-College education, hospitals, grocery stores, and more
- government employees for the aforementioned institutions and other departments/agencies (FDA, FCC, HUD, etc.,)
- SCIENCE!
but i truly, genuinely despise the idea of my hard-owned money going to:
- ICE
- DOGE (?)
- Israel/genocides generally
- wars we started
- fighting for oil (see previous bullet)
i believe in lifting others up when they're down, supporting our neighbors and community, creating a world where people feel safe and fulfilled. it pains me to know the opposite is happening. i find hope in the amount of mutual aid funds popping up with snap ending, but my taxes should be filling this gap.
